Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) / Foot Pain

Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (ESWT) is the non-invasive (non-surgical) therapeutic use of high-intensity sound waves for the treatment of chronic orthopedic problems. It can be used to treat heel pain due to Plantar Fasciitis, or other conditions such as Achilles Tendonitis. It is believed that shock wave therapy stimulates tissue healing. Patients who have had heel pain or Achilles Tendonitis for at least six months are candidates for ESWT. A course of treatments involves one visit, once a week, for three weeks consecutively. Shock wave therapy is not covered by OHIP. However, it may be covered by some private medical or drug plans. There is little to no discomfort, and you can usually return to your daily activities right after.
